HiiL Law of the Future Conference 2011

23 - 24 June 2011 | The Hague, The Netherlands

In previous years, the Law of the Future Conferences focused on a specific domain of the relationship between law and globalisation. For instance, we explored how globalisation affects national highest courts and we looked at the changing nature of regulation for private actors.

During the conference, we will focus on three specific tracks:

  • Track 1
Vertical relationships: Constitutional / institutional / administrative law

Here we will emphasize the relationship between state institutions and citizens; the so-called vertical relationship between government and the people. This track encompasses both the national and international levels of law and governance. How does our understanding of law and governance change as a result of globalisation?

  • Track 2
Horizontal relationships: Private law and private actors

Since companies and individuals increasingly work in a cross-border environment, the question which laws govern relations between actors becomes increasingly important. This track aims to shed more light on this complicated issue

  • Track 3
Criminal law / public power and punishment

Cross-border crime is a phenomenon on the rise. At the same time, violations of human rights and international tribunals fundamentally change the way we think about the state as an isolated jurisdiction. How do legal institutions deal with the changing face of crime and criminals?

More information will soon be available.
